Tsavo East National Park
Tsavo East National Park Our room at Ngutuni Lodge in Tsavo East had a balcony facing the water hole, so we set up the tripod and took pictures before we had to leave for lunch and our first safari ride. Upon return we watched elephants coming back to the waterhole and then leaving. Something was completely magical about their rhythm, the slowness of motion gave elephants additional intention and purposefulness. It appeared as if animals had truce agreement around the water hole - we saw hyenas drinking next to a small antelope, which under different circumstances could have been their lunch. We saw marabous and other birds riding elephants and other large animals. They have a symbiotic relationship as birds eat bugs off the big animals and also warn them of unusual dangers. Later I read that elephants have poor vision, so I imagine birds' eyes can be useful.
